Are School Uniforms a Good or Bad Idea? School uniforms has been the cause of debate for many years now. Most students like to wear school uniforms because they believe uniforms make schools (â€Å"safer for students†) and create â€Å"level playing fields† where every student has equal opportunity to succeed and they all apply the same set of rules. However, students and even most parents don’t agree with the enforcement with school uniforms; stating that uniforms take away the right of (â€Å"self-expression†). School uniforms are not a negative thing to have. Yes, uniforms limit what the students have to choose to wear to school every day, but it doesn’t limit them from learning; the only reason they are in school. Although some parents oppose†¦show more content†¦However, such an argument completely ignores the fact that students with uniforms behave properly and focus completely on their academic careers and may improve their attendanc e and discipline (Elisabetta Gentile and Scott A. Imberman, 2010). For example, a 2010 study by researchers at the University of Houston found that the average absence rate for girls in middle and high school decreased by 7% after the introduction of uniforms. The study also found that behavioral problems shift[ed] towards less severe infractions (Elisabetta Gentile and Scott A. Imberman, 2010). Another study also showed positive result that school uniform policies improve rate of attendance, graduation and suspension (Virginia Ann Bendel Draa, 2005). So this all proves that school uniforms have impacted in positive results, which we can ignore. The final argument stated by the opponents of school uniforms is that school uniforms emphasizes on (â€Å"socio-economic divisions†) that the school uniforms are supposed to eliminate. They believe it will not lower the socio-economic status of the people because rich families will stay buy their children every now and then, but the poor families will still have one pair to in the whole school year (US Department of Education and Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2014). On the other hand, proponents of school uniforms say that school uniform may save money.
